Noah’s Ark Theme Park Announced

December 7, 2010

Last week Ken Ham, the founder and president of Answers in Genesis, announced his group’s next project- Ark Encounter.

Ham is probably best known for doing his part to promote a literal reading of the book of Genesis.  In 2007, he opened up the Creation Museum– a shrine dedicated to all things young-earth.     The Ark Encounter promises to have, among other things, a full scale replica of Noah’s Ark- complete with petting zoo.  The formal announcement (video below) was made by Kentucky governor Steve Beshear, who seems mostly excited about the economic possibilities.

There have been a variety of good and bad responses to the announcement, but one of the more thoughtful ones can be read here, as he laments the “disney-ification” of our faith.  Take a read.

Answers in Genesis did a one-day seminar when I was in middle school, and my class went. Ham was talking about dinosaurs the whole time, which you think would be awesome and exciting, but he was so boring he but me to sleep for almost the whole time.

According to this diorama from the Creation Museum, Ham suggests that dinosaurs were taken on the ark. I’m assuming they won’t be a part of the petting zoo, however.

Unless somebody does some guerilla fursuiting, and I doubt very much Ham has any fursuiters on speed-dial.

Dinosaurs on the ark is kind of ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as Noah knowing how to build a wooden crane.
