Holy Ghost Hokey Pokey

December 16, 2010

Is your church missing that extra spark in worship? Well, that’s probably because you’re not doing the “Holy Ghost Hokey Pokey”.

In the words of Seth Myers and Amy Poehler: REALLY?!?

I’m open to all sorts of different expressions of worship, but are you REALLY telling me that the hokey pokey is a legitimate form of worship? REALLY?!?

But we can’t stop there can we? Are you REALLY telling me that the hokey pokey can perform miraculous healings? REALLY?!?

The Holy Ghost Hokey Pokey??   REALLY?!?

I love the music arrangement. I am thinking of cutting a track like this to use in my next theme park show. By the way you may have heard about the recent death of the guy who wrote the Hokey Pokey. The burial service was a real tragedy. You know…”he would put is right foot in and put his right foot out”!

So if I take my grandmother to this church and get her to do a funny dance, will her Alzheimer’s disappear?

It can’t disappear because it’s not in the bible and therefore it doesn’t exist. So in a way everyone with Alzheimer’s is already healed!

So you put left hand and foot in at the same time and take them out or can you put your right and left hands in at the same time and shake them all about? Wow the combos are limitless!

It’s stuff like this that makes people think Christianity is ridiculous. It even makes me question it, and I’ve been a Christian for a long time.

My hope is that people see stuff like this on blogs like these and realize that it’s just a few crazies on the fringes.

Seriously though, who are you to say Jesus isn’t dealing with these people in this way?

    Just sayin’.

I’m a Christian with enough discernment to tell the difference between a concert induced emotional high and the actual hand of God at work.

Seriously though, who are you to say Jesus isn’t dealing with people through the ways you condemn in your “ministry”, i.e. contemplative spirituality?

Or is the grace of God not powerful enough to redeem the “unclean” things of the world?

Apparently, in your mind He can redeem the non-biblical hokey pokey, but not contemplative spirituality which has roots in both the Bible and Christian tradition?

Ken, I think you are the quintessential example of the pot calling the kettle black.

      Just sayin’

Was that Jesus playing the violin?
