Paul Washer: Depression Is Your Fault

March 24, 2011

I honestly had to watch this video 2 or 3 times before I could believe what I was hearing.

Paul Washer’s advice for people suffering with depression: “instead of letting [your] heart preach to [you]..[you] ought to preach God’s word to [your] heart”

Paul Washer’s advice to people counseling those who are depressed: “rebuke them”

If you have someone in your life that suffers from depression or if you yourself suffer with depression then we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you watch this video far enough away that you can’t punch the screen and break your computer.

Great perspective on something that can be quite taboo to talk about.

Depression can really be debilitating and it’s great to here other stories about the experiences they went through. Sometimes just hearing from someone else that shares, or can empathize, with your pain can mean the world.

I hope others find your site as useful as I have.

    Cheers,

Lol, sorry – posted the wrong comment. That’ll teach me to read more than one blog at the same time.

In regards to the vid…….damn right. Stay far away from your monitor for fear of physical injury.

        Crazy what’s on the interwebz.

        Cheers,
        David

I remember hearing a talk by one of the CCEF guys saying that Jay Adams concentrates on sin and neglects an emphasis on suffering, which is what leads to the sort of advice given here. If we only see a man as a sinner, then he needs rebuke and challenge. If we also have the framework of sufferer, then we will also have the capacity to offer comfort to someone undergoing suffering.

I always think of Job when I hear something like this. He longed for some words of comfort from his friends. Their rebukes missed the mark of what was going on his life. This word from Paul Washer is simplistic.

For example, you can avoid unnecessary muscle strain with the flexibility
you learn from yoga. Hence, it can be said that chiropractic therapy is
the best way of getting relief from back pain even where drugs or surgical procedure is seldom used.
It is for this reason; the better option to
avoid administering drugs and try to get rid of this problem is by doing
regular exercises as per the recommendations of the medical
    officers.
